MOTO module

Your helmet warns you before the bend.

During guidance, VOKPIT reads the road ahead and tells you in your helmet: a bend that tightens, a shower, fog, crosswind, gravel.

VOKPIT guidance screen: the next manoeuvre, the map and the route, speed and arrival time.

The tight bend

During guidance, your helmet says "Careful, tight bend." when you come too fast into a bend that tightens, once per bend, at least eight seconds ahead, early enough to brake. For three tight bends or more in a row: "Careful, several tight bends over 800 metres".

The alert relies on the bend's radius, taken from the route geometry, and on a reference lean of 30 degrees, the same physics as the riding screen's lean meter. It speaks when your pace is more than 20% above what that radius allows, and stays quiet under about 40 km/h. The banner shows "Tight bend · 34 m radius": the radius, never a speed to hold. Everything is computed from the route already in memory, with no signal; the alert is as good as the map.

The weather on your route

When guidance starts and at each recalculation, VOKPIT reads the forecast at a point about every 20 km, for the time you will pass, then adjusts those times to your position, with no further request. Your helmet then announces, in the last few minutes:

  • rain: "Showers in 5 minutes.";
  • fog, read from the forecast symbol: "Careful, fog in 3 minutes.";
  • crosswind, assessed against the direction of your route: only the part of the wind that pushes you sideways counts, from about 40 km/h.

One announcement per phenomenon and per route; at the same time, fog goes before wind, and wind before rain. Before you leave, the preview gives the figures: "No rain expected on this route", "Showers in ~40 min", "Crosswind · 60 km/h".

Reported hazards

"Report gravel", or three presses on your intercom (on Android, with VOKPIT on screen): the hazard is set at your position, for free. On the next pass, on the riding screen or during guidance, your helmet reminds you, even with no signal: "Careful, gravel in 200 metres". Gravel, pothole, animal, accident, object on the road, slippery road. A hazard in the other direction or already passed stays quiet.

With a signed-in account, your gravel, slippery roads, animals, objects and accidents also warn other riders, without your name, once you have accepted the sharing rules while stopped. To receive theirs, the app only sends the twenty-kilometre area you are in, never your position. Confirming or dismissing a hazard by voice, right after it is announced, extends or removes it; each one expires on its own, from 2 hours to 7 days depending on its type.

VOKPIT never reports a speed camera or a police check: the request is refused out loud.

Vigilance zones

On entering a stretch of road flagged by official open data, your helmet says "Vigilance zone", with no distance or direction. These stretches are long (at least 300 metres, 2 km outside towns, 4 km on motorways); during guidance, only those on your route speak, and the map shows them as amber dashes. The data set downloads and updates on its own, and you can import your own.

Who speaks when

When two announcements collide, the direction goes first, and an alert that is out of date is dropped rather than said late. The guidance speech setting never silences bend and weather alerts. The "Mute guidance voice" button silences manoeuvres and alerts, never SOS.

Questions

Do alerts work without guidance?

The tight bend and weather, no: they read the route being followed. Reported hazards and vigilance zones speak on the riding screen as during guidance.

Do I need a signal?

To read the weather at the start and receive other riders' hazards, yes. The tight bend and your own hazards work with no signal.

Does VOKPIT report speed cameras?

No, never, nor police checks. The request is refused out loud.

Is hazard reporting free?

Yes, in the base. The reminder on the next pass and the other alerts are part of the MOTO module.

Can I silence the alerts?

The "Mute guidance voice" button silences manoeuvres and alerts. The speech setting, on the other hand, never silences bends or weather.
