MOTO module
Today's loop ride, drawn at random.
How much time do you have, and how many bends? VOKPIT draws loops computed for real, puts first the ones with no rain forecast, and guides you in your helmet.
In the MOTO module: €4.99 a month or €44.99 a year, 14-day free trial, once.
A duration, a dose of bends
- Duration: from 30 minutes to 8 hours, in 30-minute steps, or the time to be back.
- Twistiness, in five steps: Relaxed, Flowing, Twisty, Very twisty, Hairpins.
- Options: a direction (north, east, south, west, or automatic) and unpaved tracks; paved roads are the default.
- Start: your position, an address or a point on the map; the finish, back at the start or an address.
Three proposals, dry ones first
Each draw computes a range of loops for real on the VOKPIT server, only when you ask, and keeps three at most. They are ordered like this: first the ones with no rain forecast at the times you will pass, then the duration closest to the one asked, then the least backtracking on the same road, then measured twistiness. It is a ranking, not a promise: a missing forecast counts as dry.
All proposals are drawn on the map, the one you are looking at in colour, the others in grey, with their duration and distance. The towns you pass through are named. "Another ride" first steps through the loops already computed, with no signal, then draws again. When the terrain allows no real loop, the screen says so: those rides then come back partly the same way.
Sun and darkness in the preview
Before you leave, the preview flags the riding time into a low sun and after dark, for example "Into the sun 35 min" or "After dark 1 h 25", and says nothing under ten minutes. It is an astronomical calculation, done on the phone, valid for any route in preview. In a draw, a loop with more than twenty minutes into a low sun goes behind the ones that avoid it.
A sight on the way
A switch takes each loop past a well-known place in its area, castle, pass, waterfall, abbey or lake, chosen among some 4,150 sights in France and its neighbours. The proposal names up to three sights, and they are marked with a star on the maps. They are never announced in your helmet: the ride stays a ride.
Extend on the way
During a loop ride's guidance, while stopped, "Extend the ride" adds 30 minutes or an hour. The route sets off from there towards the end of the ride by another way, without repeating what you have already ridden and without leaving guidance. If the calculation fails, the ride carries on as it was and the screen says so. Extend exists on Android and iPhone.
My rides, roadbooks and GPX
A ride is saved in "My round trips", shared with a link and ridden again. Roadbooks hold up to twelve named stops; a GPX file can be imported (track, route or stops) and rides export to GPX. Once started, the ride is guided in your helmet like any route, with bend and weather alerts.
Questions
Do I need a signal to draw a ride?
Yes: the draw computes loops on the server. Offline or on a weak network, it stops quickly, says why and keeps the proposals already shown. Once started, the ride is guided on the phone.
Is the duration respected?
The durations shown are the computed ones. In our tests, the first loop usually lasts a little longer than asked, around 15%.
Do loops always avoid rain?
They come first when no rain is forecast at the times you will pass, but it is a ranking, not a promise: a missing forecast counts as dry.
Are sights announced?
No, never in your helmet. They are named on the proposal and marked with a star on the map.
Can I start somewhere other than my position?
Yes: from an address or a point on the map, and finish at the start or at another address.
