MOTO module
The motorcycle GPS that guides you in your helmet.
"Take me to the Route des Crêtes." The route is computed, then the voice guides you turn by turn in your helmet, all the way, screen off included.
In the MOTO module: €4.99 a month or €44.99 a year, 14-day free trial, once.
Ask for your route
- By voice, from your intercom mic button: "take me to…", "take me home", "take me to work".
- By keyboard, only when stopped: while riding, search gives way to a large voice button.
- In one tap: Home, Work, your favourites and your last eight places.
- The nearest: fuel station, supermarket or toilets, by tap or voice (fuel station only on iPhone).
Fast, short, or twisty
Before you leave, the preview compares up to two more routes (time and distance), and one tap swaps them. Three route styles: Fast, the least time; Short, the fewest kilometres, always on paved roads; Twisty, the most bends. Tolls and ferries can be avoided, unpaved roads excluded. The preview does not speak: only guidance speaks.
Announcements timed to your speed
Announcements follow your speed, not a fixed distance: a first heads-up about 45 seconds before the manoeuvre, an announcement about 10 seconds before, and "continue for…" only when at least 600 metres remain with nothing to do. When two manoeuvres come within 400 metres, the screen shows "then…".
At roundabouts, the icon draws the ring from its real shape, in the direction of traffic, with the exit at its real angle; the exit number only counts exits you can take. Exit numbers and destinations from road signs are shown. On arrival, the voice says so, then GPS and the screen stop on their own.
Screen off, phone in your pocket
On Android, guidance keeps speaking with the screen off or in another app. A permanent notification shows the next manoeuvre and carries a stop button. GPS only runs during guidance you started, and background location is not requested. Slipped into a pocket, the screen turns off and guidance carries on.
On iPhone, background location is used during guidance only, and the manoeuvre shows on the lock screen.
Computed once, guided on the phone
The route is computed by the VOKPIT server, with a motorcycle profile and durations adjusted for motorcycles, anywhere in the world. Once the route is received, guidance is computed on the phone: it holds in a tunnel, in the mountains or abroad. The voice is the phone's own and speaks with no signal. Arrival time adjusts to your riding, learnt on the phone, and none of it leaves.
If you leave the route, it recalculates automatically. With no signal at that moment, the old route is kept, right again as soon as you rejoin it, and recalculation is retried; the failure is only said once. Needing a connection: computing and recalculating, address search, the speed limit and route weather, and the map if no offline map is installed.
Your helmet speaks when it should
During guidance, your helmet also warns you of a tight bend approached too fast, rain, fog, crosswind assessed against the direction of your route, and reported hazards (alerts in detail). When two announcements collide, the direction goes first, and an announcement that is out of date is dropped rather than said late. The built-in radio dips for the length of an announcement. The amount of speech can be set (Full, Essential or Muted) without ever silencing safety alerts.
What the screen shows
- The speed limit, read from map data, when it is there; your speed turns red above it.
- Arrival time and kilometres left.
- The map heading-up, north-up or overview, in 2D or 3D, with a zoom that follows your speed.
- Your position as an arrow, or as the silhouette of your motorcycle chosen in the garage.
Roadbooks and GPX
A roadbook holds up to twelve named stops, put together while stopped, with an announcement at each stop; it keeps its remaining stops when guidance recalculates. A GPX file can be imported: if it names its stops, it reopens the editor with no signal; a track becomes a route you can follow. Loop rides and roadbooks export to GPX, on Android and iPhone.
Questions
Does guidance work without a signal?
Computing the route needs a connection. After that, guidance, the voice and the arrival time are computed on the phone, and a downloaded map shows with no signal.
Does it keep going with the screen off?
Yes. On Android, it keeps going with the screen off or in another app, with a notification showing the next manoeuvre. On iPhone, the manoeuvre shows on the lock screen.
Is guidance free?
No, it is part of the MOTO module, with a 14-day free trial, once. In the free base, a dictated destination opens in your usual navigation app.
Do I need an intercom?
It is recommended: guidance and commands then go through your helmet. The app also works on the speaker or earphones.
Can I avoid tolls?
Yes, tolls and ferries can be avoided, and unpaved roads excluded.
