MOTO module
Motorcycle maps, even with no signal.
Cut out the map around you or along your route, and ride with a base map that shows with no signal, on a mountain pass as abroad.
In the MOTO module: €4.99 a month or €44.99 a year, 14-day free trial, once.
Two ways to download
The map is cut out on demand, anywhere in the world: around me, within 50, 100 or 200 km, or along my route, over the area of the current route. The size is shown before downloading, which uses Wi-Fi by default, with a verified checksum and resume. Nothing starts on its own: cutting starts with a tap, while stopped, and no area is preselected.
| Downloaded area | Size |
|---|---|
| Around me, 50 km | 65 to 91 MB |
| Around me, 100 km | 198 to 256 MB |
| Around me, 200 km | 634 to 974 MB |
| Along a 95 km route | 15 MB |
| Along a 330 km route | 254 MB |
| Along a 660 km route | 353 MB |
A map file can also be imported from the phone, with no signal.
What the map shows
- A vector map stored on the phone, detailed down to streets, in day or night style, with thicker roads to stay readable with gloves.
- Your position and the track of your ride.
- Useful places: fuel station, supermarket and toilets on the guidance map; restaurants, cafés, bakeries, pharmacies, hospitals, hotels, campsites, viewpoints and sights on top of those on the Map screen. Never a police check.
- Traffic lights in place (on Android, in areas under 200 MB), reported hazards as amber dots and sights marked with a star.
Map data comes from OpenStreetMap, credited on screen.
What stays online, and why
With a map installed, display needs no network call at all: no tiles, no style, no fonts. What stays online is computing and recalculating the route, address search, the speed limit and route weather. Once the route is received, guidance is computed on the phone and needs nothing more.
Without a downloaded map, the same map shows online, with an "online map" banner leading to the downloads. With no map and no signal, whatever is already cached shows and the rest stays blank, without blocking guidance.
The right map, on its own
Among the maps that contain your position, VOKPIT picks the widest, without asking. Roundabout streets are read from the map when it covers the ring, with no signal. Maps are kept in the app's private storage and are deleted from the phone when the subscription ends, while stopped and only them.
On iPhone, it is the same maps and the same rules; downloading moves on while the app is on screen ("Retry" picks up where it left off), and importing goes through the Files app.
Questions
Can I compute a route with no signal?
No. Computing and recalculating need a connection. Once the route is received, guidance is computed on the phone and the downloaded map shows with no signal.
How much space do maps take?
From 15 MB for a 95 km route to nearly 1 GB for a 200 km radius. The size is shown before each download.
Do maps update?
A downloaded map is a fixed extract. For a newer version, download the area again.
What happens to maps if I cancel?
They are deleted from the phone when the subscription ends. The rest of your data stays.
Does the nearest toilet search work offline?
No: the nearest search reads the map when it covers the place, but toilets are not in it. The screen says so rather than answering "none".
